Fit and sizing

Will a beaded cape fit me?

Yes. Every cape is free size. It sits on the shoulders and drapes over the body rather than fitting at the bust or waist, so it suits most body shapes from petite to plus size.

How long are the capes?

Lengths run from about 18 inches for our shorter capelets to about 26 inches for the longer styles, measured from the collar to the tip of the fringe. The exact length is listed on every product page.

What is the difference between a cape and a capelet?

A capelet is a short cape. It covers the shoulders and finishes between the upper arm and the elbow, which keeps the line of a fitted gown clean. A longer cape reaches further down the back and gives more drama. Our guide Cape vs Capelet vs Shrug explains the difference in detail.

How does it fasten?

Most styles fasten with a single hook at the collar and fall open below, so your dress stays visible at the front.

Is a beaded cape heavy?

The beadwork gives it a pleasant weight that helps it hang and swing properly, but it rests on the shoulders and is comfortable to wear through a long event.

Styling

What can I wear it with?

Capes look best over simple pieces: a slip dress, a fitted gown, a jumpsuit, a corset top with tailored trousers, or a saree or lehenga blouse. Strapless and strappy necklines show off the beadwork best.

Can I wear a beaded cape with a strapless wedding dress?

Yes, and it is one of the most popular ways to wear one. A capelet frames a strapless neckline instead of covering it. See What to Wear Over a Strapless Wedding Dress.

Can a bride wear a cape instead of a veil?

Many brides now do, or wear a veil for the ceremony and switch to a cape for the reception. Browse our Bridal and Ivory Capes.

Which colour should I choose?

Gold is the most festive and suits Christmas and warm toned outfits. Silver and gunmetal feel cooler and modern. Black is the easiest to style for black tie and corporate events. Ivory is made for brides.

Is a cape suitable for a mother of the bride or a wedding guest?

Yes. A cape gives shoulder and arm coverage for a ceremony without the stiffness of a jacket. Guests should avoid ivory and white so they do not clash with the bride. Read Mother of the Bride Outfit Ideas.

Can I dance in it?

Absolutely. There are no sleeves to restrict you, and the fringe is designed to move.

Quality and care

Is the beadwork done by hand?

Yes. Every cape is beaded by hand, so small differences in bead placement, colour and fringe length are part of its handmade character and not a fault.

How do I clean my cape?

Never machine wash or tumble dry a beaded piece. Spot clean gently on the base fabric, or take it to a dry cleaner who handles beaded and embellished garments.

How should I store it?

Store it flat or loosely folded in the box it arrived in, with tissue between folds, away from jewellery and zips that can catch the fringe. Untangle the fringe gently with your fingers before wearing. More tips in our care guide.
